Jesse, I plan on trying to rent Reykjavik 101, I love the idea of an Icelandic slacker film. Tell me, have you ever seen Nói albínói?

No, I haven't seen that movie, but it does look good. I'll have to look out for it. I loved Reykjavik 101. Scandi films have a unique feel to them, I find. Reykjavik 101 is a good example that not all Scandinavian films have to be dark and brooding. I'd also suggest I am Curious (yellow and blue) from Sweden.

Caribou vs Grizzly
>> ^Sagemind:
I was totally voting for the Reindeer! Why didn't Santa Save him?

That, sir, appears to be a Caribou from the Porcupine herd in Alaska (Rangifer tarandus granti) judging by the landscape and trees.

Nature can sometimes be cruel, but on the bright side, at least the mother Grizzly was able to feed her 2 cubs.

The Story of the Weeping Camel
>> ^schmawy:
Really people this is a wonderful story told with only music and images. It's worth watching. promote

Thanks Schmawy I used to own this movie on DVD. It's a beautiful film and I highly recommend it. I visited Mongolia a few years back and it was one of the most wonderful place I have ever been to.

A short explanation of the Kashmiri conflict
Pretty well summed up. Kashmir is an amazing place, but it's unfortunately situated in between three pretty crazy nuclear-armed nations. I spent some time in Srinagar last May and it was really interesting place. It's like heaven on earth in terms of natural beauty and culture, but I've never been surrounded by so many armed men before in my life. Shortly after I arrived, two muslim girls were raped, murdered and dumped in a stream and the Indian Security Forces were blamed for it. The Islamic separatists groups called a general strike throughout the whole region and I was stuck in my houseboat for a few days because there were roadblocks everywhere. I had to hire a driver to get me out of the city at the break of dawn. I'll never forget the mountain roads in Kashmir! I'd love to go back and spend more time there again someday though. It really is an incredible place.

Extreme up-close photography of a leopard seal
Incredible... One of my friends worked for the British Antarctic Survey for a number of years and he was telling me about how he was once broadsided by a Leopard Seal while he was wading in the water at the shoreline holding a zodiac steady. He said the sheer power of these creatures is unbelievable. I've seen a couple myself and they are pretty intimidating animals. I would be scared out of my mind being in the water with one. They grow up to 12 feet long, weigh up to 1300 lbs and can swim as fast at 65 km/hr. They're very efficient predators!

Unhinged: Surviving Joburg promo
This is a great find. I went to Joburg a couple years ago and there were riots against Zimbabwean immigrants going on at the time. The media was over-blowing it as usual, but I got a couple panicked emails from Throbbin to "get the fuck out" while I was there. I was so tempted to call him saying I had been kidnapped and that he needed to wire ransom money.

It really is quite the interesting city though. I enjoyed my time there.
